Longtown is situated on the English/Scottish border and is just three miles from the infamous Gretna Green and six from the bustling city of Carlisle. Longtown’s turbulent history is evident in both legend and historic sites that are just waiting to be explored. Today, Longtown is primarily a friendly farming town and gifts the visitor with beautiful natural scenery and is a tranquil haven in which to unwind and relax. For tourists looking into border history, there is a great deal to be found around Longtown. It lies at the heart of the "Debatable Lands" and is close to the location of the Battle of the Solway Moss.
Longtown is England's first and last border town, with the Solway Firth to the West and Hadrian’s Wall to the East.
